Polymer clay is a soft modelling clay that bakes or cures in an oven at a low temperature. The figures are based on a wire armature and cloth body, then costumed. They are created through lots of practice, observation and experimentation. The majority of the featured polymer clay dolls are original hand sculpted figures, while some are made with press molds. Also, a few are sculpted from an air drying paperclay.
I often envision caricatures from ordinary people and feel compelled to create them as fantasy characters. My sculptures evolve through imagination, adding unique details such as appropriate accessories to contribute to the characters personality. Sculpting with polymer clay is very rewarding and surprising when a whimsical figure comes to life in my hands.
